Next Novice Race Class will be Sunday, March 14th. This will be an all-day on-the-water training event.
Around (Lake Lanier) Alone Regatta
The long time–honored tradition of the Barefoot/Southern Sailing Clubs premier solo regatta, the Around Alone Regatta, will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 on Lake Lanier. Come on out with the rest of the hardy singlehanders on a race from the Chattahoochee Bay area of the Lake, to Buford Dam and back! Then join everyone for good eats, socializing, and the awards party at Aqualand. Come ready for a full day of sailing and fun!Barefoot Sailing Club is the organizing authority for this regatta. Notice is hereby given that all participants, including spectators, officials, and support personnel, participate in this event solely at their own risk.
1. Rules
The regatta will be governed by the Rules of Sailing as defined by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). Please Note: This race is a FUN event!
2. Entries
- Entry is open to all Auxiliary boats that hold a valid current (2010) Lake Lanier PHRF certificate, or provide proof of submittal of same at the skippers meeting.
- Any boat not displaying a sail number will be scored DNS. This will not be grounds for redress.
- A completed Entry Form with payment of the Entry Fee ($10.00) must be submitted for each participating boat.
- Each entry shall be submitted on the Official Entry Form (attached to this Notice of Race), and must include the Entry Fee.
3. Schedule of Race
Starting time for the one race to be sailed is 10:00am. If it becomes necessary to change the racing schedule, a notice will be published on the Barefoot Sailing Club Web Page at www.barefootsailing.org. 4. Classes
There will only be one class (PHRF). Non-spinnaker boats will have an additional time adjustment from there normal LLPHRF rating of 15 seconds (per mile).
5. Sailing Instructions
Sailing Instructions will be available at the registration and Skippers Meeting to be held at the parking lot in front of the Aqualand Store at 8:00 am on Saturday, April 10, 2010.
6. Start
The Start will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the Barefoot Sailing Club Barge (RC Platform) and an inflatable yellow tetrahedron. The Starting Area will be in the vicinity of the Chattahoochee Bay area of the Lake.
7. Scoring
The Low Point System will be used. The race will be scored using the PHRF rating system, modified by a formula utilizing the time-on-distance correction.
8. Trophies
The Grand Prize/Perpetual Trophy (Robin Davies’ autographed burgee) will go to the boat finishing First Overall on Corrected Time. Other trophies will be awarded to boats finishing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.
9. After Race Party
The after race party will be held at Aqualand’s X-dock.
Todd's Spiced Tea for a Cold Sailing Day
6 oz orange juice concentrate thawed
6 tea bags
2 teaspn whole cloves
2 cups sugar
2 sticks cinnamon
4 qts water
3/4 cup lemon juice
2 cups unsweet pineapple juice
2 cups dark rum
Steep tea bags in hot water for 10 minutes.
Remove tea bags add remaining ingredients.

BAREFOOT -- Busting Sailing Myths
Myth 1: You Need to Own a Boat to Sail
No you don't, not with BAREFOOT. Many of our Captains welcome crew every week for races and cruises.
Myth 2: You Need to be Experienced to Sail
No you don't, not with BAREFOOT. We offer formal Intro to Sailing classes, intermediate classes for those who have sailed, and our captains and crew are always willing to offer their free advice.
Myth 3: Sailing is Expensive
No it isn't, not with BAREFOOT. If you enjoy being a member of the 'working crew', you may find yourself sailing 20 - 30 or more times this year - for our First Year's annual dues of $45.
Myth 4: Sailing on Lake Lanier is only for Novice Sailors
No it isn't, not with BAREFOOT. Many of our Captains and crew have years of cruising and racing experience on the Atlantic and Great Lakes and decades on Lanier; some of them are World Champion racers!

Welcome to Sailing on Lake Lanier . . . Welcome to Barefoot
BAREFOOT is one of Lake Lanier's major sailing clubs. BAREFOOT was founded in 1971 on the premise of a common forum for people who love sailing - and who may or may not even own a boat.
If you're new to sailing or an old salt, you are invited. Whether you prefer the adrenalin rush of hiking out or "poppin' a chute" as you round a buoy or just relaxing for a pleasant day sailing on the lake with good company.... you are welcome.
What makes us different?
Glad you asked! Unlike other sailing clubs that may require you to own a boat in order to join, all we require is that you own a desire to sail! Many of our ling-time members and officers don't own a boat.
While we do have a wide variety of boats (and for that matter - owners) in our club, we encourage you to become part of our extended crew for races, cruises and social activities. That way, you get to enjoy the camaraderie of being a crew member, meet new friends, and also get to "try out" a lot of different of boats.
BAREFOOT has a number of activities going on all year with the club. If you like the laid back, party attitude of cruising, we have an "Open Cruise" each month. It is on the first Saturday of each month. Come on out and enjoy cruising on Lake Lanier. We usually conclude the cruise with a "Raft-up" party in some quiet cove where we can let our sails down and have some fun. "Would you like to see a real party?"
